Cafe De Flore Ikoyi NG is located on Glover road in Ikoyi, Lagos, and very much inspired by Café De Flore in Paris and Paris in general. This is in their Instagram bio in case you were wondering and a simple google search would bring out the Paris inspiration for this new cute (very cute) café in the heart of Ikoyi. They also had a nice selection of tea and would be ideal for afternoon tea or breakfast and most definitely brunch in Lagos.
It gave me Tiffany Blue Box Café vibes as the interior of Cafe De Flore Ikoyi’s interior is a mixture of mostly turquoise blue and light pastel colours that almost made me feel like I was Alice in Wonderland. I had seen some snippets on Instagram from the soft launch as the kitchen is in Test Kitchen mode with Chef Fregz as the Executive Chef.
The full name of the Cafe is Cafe De Flore by the Tearoom. The owner of Cafe De Flore owns two other spots in Lekki and this is a third under her belt and the design and décor are so tastefully and beautifully done. The location of Cafe De Flore Ikoyi used to be occupied by Sophomore Coffee Shop/Cafe – not sure when they permanently closed since their last post on socials was in February.
As I said, the Cafe is still in test kitchen mode and should fully open by the weekend. I definitely see this as one of the IT brunch spots in Lagos and Ikoyi in particular definitely needed more dining spots. Who would have thought that with CoVid and all, places would still spring up – well done to entrepreneurs! It can’t be easy.
I walked into Cafe De Flore on a very hot afternoon and this was the nearest location in Ikoyi to relax and tend to my hunger. The staff were all smiles and willing to show me around the very cute and small spot while I waited for a friend who was to keep me company. They were so sweet it was contagious and I really do hope it remains this way. To keep my mouth busy, I was welcomed with some Cinnamon flavoured popcorn.
The menu was quite limited so no complaints there, Cafe De Flore is not officially opened so whatever I see I should take it like that right?

The waiter was very quick to also let me know the drinks menu was also limited and since they were in test kitchen mode, they open at 1 pm so breakfast is out of the question. I ordered the Fregz Flore Salad and the Lamb Ragù Pasta – I was very hungry!
Warm Chicken with Mixed Salad Leaves, Cucumbers, Sweet Corn, Charred Tomato Dressing, Red Currants, Edible Flowers and it had some Pomegranate (the menu does not mention this)
I typically will not go out and order a salad but because balance, I was really trying to be good. The salad was not bad. I would not make my salad at home this way and the pomegranates were not so sweet so it had a very tangy feel to it (which is not bad at all) but it’s not my usual style. Did I like it? Yes. Portion? Amazing portion but if you were hungry like me, this alone will not fill you up
The Pasta came in a nice mustard yellow bowl (I love this colour) so that got me excited. It was freshly made Pappardelle Pasta and I could easily tell from the texture plus Chef Nkesi had shown me how to make this when she hosted me in her kitchen a while back.
The portion was massive and the minced beef was all over and with every bite, I was very satisfied. In terms of taste, was well seasoned and the flavours were having a party in my mouth. I later realised that the Garlic Toast that should have come with this was missing. Test kitchen mistakes I guess. I enjoyed this and had to have the rest to go which I devoured much later after 3 crazy hours in traffic – Lagos…
For drinks, the drink menu at Cafe De Flore Ikoyi is quite limited so I had ordered a Pink Sangria at first because the heat was not making sense. However, my friend who had been here the day before was like “Tai, you have to try the Hot Chocolate’. In my mind, I was like in this hot sun? Hot chocolate??? But T hardly hypes anything so for him to say try this, I had to try it.
French take on the white Sangria with summer berries and dry wine
This came in a nice sized glass and was so chilled and had a kick to it- Taking alcohol on an empty stomach is not the best o (lol). One sip and I felt that hot movement move from my throat to my belly and I had to pause and eat something first. I mean this in a good way.
This almighty Hot chocolate was not on the menu but I would not exactly say it is a hidden menu item at Cafe De Flore. See ehn, this was so rich, T did not lie one bit. I had to ask if he caught a glimpse of whoever was making it so I see if I could buy it for my own personal consumption but they made this in the kitchen. It really was so good but the price shocked me when I saw N4,000 on the bill. I was not even mad, I really enjoyed this. I’m a tea and hot chocolate girl but this Hot chocolate from Café De Flore is definitely one of the best hot chocolates I have ever had! I’d rank this Numero Uno for Hot Chocolate in Lagos. Too early for me to say this? Well, let’s see!
I guess the only downside of my experience at Café De Flore in Ikoyi was how long I had to wait to get my meal (45 mins minimum) but it was such a lovely atmosphere that I did not feel bad my food did not come out on time. It was not ‘busy’ per se but I did understand it was in test mode as it’s been less than a week. The service by the waiters and staff that attended to me did not make the wait time feel crazy at all.
I really want to see Café De Flore NG flourish in Lagos and as a new addition to Ikoyi, it Is very welcome.
Ambience | Cafe De Flore Ikoyi really beautiful and so cute (can’t even hate it if I tried to TBH). One of the instagrammable locations in Lagos for sure. Tiffany blue box café vibes for sure. An ideal location for brunch and tea with your crew
Food Quality | The selection of meals I had was very okay. I need to sample more to be sure Cafe De Flore Ikoyi is an all-rounder. The hot chocolate is premium quality and amazing
Location | Very easy to find. Limited parking within the premises as there are other cute looking stores from the exterior
Price | I’ll say Cafe De Flore Ikoyi may seem sort of pricy but you be the judge. Total damage came to ₦31,500 with VAT and Tax Hot Chocolate: ₦4,000 x 2 – We had two of this Pink Sangria: ₦5,000 Fregz Flore Salad: ₦7,000 Lamb Ragu: ₦7,500 Takeaway pack: ₦500 View Restaurant Menus here
Service Delivery | The staff were quite pleasant and all smiles (as it should be really). Food came out quite slow but it was a generally calm atmosphere and I was in no rush. However, the Cafe De Flore Ikoyi is in test mode but when in live mode, it should be faster and seamless |
