I don’t know much about alcohol, but I do know that what makes or breaks a cocktail is not just who makes it, but the quality of the ingredients. That being said, if you’re ‘bored in the house and you’re in the house bored’, you can choose to be adventurous and try your hands at making cocktails. I personally like the cocktails that contain lime juice, so if you have limes at home, these are a few cocktails you can try.
The Mojito is traditionally Cuban, and I haven’t had a lot of cocktails, but I believe mojitos are my favourite. The flavour is refreshing, and I particularly like its transparency, I can lie to myself that I’m drinking water and lime, lol.
Ingredients for Mojito:
1 ½ oz of white rum
Soda water
1 oz of fresh lime juice
2 teaspoons of sugar
Mint leaves (as many as you want)
I would give you a recipe but I’m not a mixologist, it’s probably best to just google a recipe. Fun fact: if you’re a teetotaler, virgin mojitos are made without rum and are just as delicious.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about the benefits of ginger, but I forgot to include that ginger beer can be used in making a popular cocktail called the Moscow Mule. it is usually served on the rocks, in a copper mug, whose properties takes on the cold temperature of the cocktail.
Ingredients for Moscow Mule:
1 ½ of vodka
⅙ oz of lime juice
4 oz of ginger beer
Lime wedge or mint leaves.
Fun fact: the idea behind using a copper mug for the Moscow Mule was incidental.
This cocktail is essentially just a rum and coke, however, several recipes include lime juice for that extra zing! A light rum such as Bacardi is apparently best of the Cuba Libre – I wouldn’t know, I’m clueless. Listen to the experts.
Ingredients for Cuba Libre
1 2/3 oz White rum,
1/3 oz Fresh lime juice,
4 oz Cola
Fun fact about Cuba Libre: it translates to ‘Free Cuba’.
I absolutely adore daiquiris, especially the strawberry ones, hold the alcohol. But the original daiquiri contains rum, syrup and of course, lime juice.
Ingredients for Daiquiri
1 1/2 oz White rum
1 oz Lime juice
1/2 oz Simple syrup
Fun fact: there are many different flavours of daiquiris, the base is usually rum and lime juice.
