You know how in Hollywood movies when one of the characters has the flu or a cold and their loved one brings them a bowl of chicken soup? Have you ever wondered why? Well, I have and this is why: there are some certain meals, ingredients and food items that improve the human immune system. In these days of COVID-19, consuming food that boosts our immune system is imperative.
So without further ado, here are a few food items that will improve/ help boost your immune system aka the Immune System Avengers
Chicken soup actually works, by the way. It contains anti-inflammatory properties. The protein in white meat like chicken and turkey also boosts immunity. stay home and order chicken pepper soup today.
Vitamin C, which is one of the best immune system boosters, can be found in concentrated amounts in citrus fruits. Fruits and herbs like oranges, lemons, lime, tangerines, cherries, red and yellow bell peppers, parsley, thyme all contain vitamin C. Apart from boosting the immune system, it also helps with keeping healthy skin and eyes. Eat your oranges, kids.
One of the most versatile spices, essential in anything you’re cooking, also serves as a great immune system booster. It doesn’t hurt that it’s also delicious.

Ginger, another useful spice root used in cooking is great for the immune system. It contains Gingerol, a compound which contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Ginger also helps with nausea and is a great spice for cooking. It can be consumed in many different ways, some of which are in soup or as tea.

If you are lactose intolerant, this is not for you, face front. Yoghurt contains an active bacteria called lactobacillus, which helps boost the immune system and helps fight off diseases. Unsweetened, low-fat yoghurts contain more of the live and active cultures that possess these properties. A really good breakfast or snack idea is home-made parfait, with berries, almonds, and other fruits and nuts that also help boost the immune system.
