Ci Gusta Restaurant, (V.I, Lagos)

Cigusta is a new Italian-themed restaurant in Lagos. I was at the branch in Accra in 2015, and I remember liking it, especially the sandwiches they served at the time. This time, I went with a friend to the outlet in Lagos. It is well-lit space with natural lighting and it has a decent-sized play area. It is one of the biggest spaces I’ve seen for any child-friendly restaurant, so I definitely see this as one of the spots to get frequent visits by families.
The restaurant gave me vibes of Cactus and Eric Kayser, but more commercial with Italian meals focused.
MEAL
We started with a Pancrocchino; a Funghi truffle that tasted really nice. It’s like a crossbreed of a flatbread and a pizza. It was a medium-sized portion and ideal as a starter.
I ordered the Linguini Pesto pasta, unlike my Nigerian palate; I expected this to come with some protein for the price, but it just had some potatoes. It was really tasty, but it would have been nice to have chicken or something with it. Heads up, you can also request the shape of pasta you prefer.
My friend ordered the Carbonara but also wanted it with Linguini, but it ended up coming as the default Penne which they apologized for.
DRINKS
I had two fresh glasses of orange juice because one was just not enough. I liked that the oranges used were sweet and fresh.
My friend had a Cappuccino, and she liked it. I did not taste it because it was a hot day, and I wanted a cool drink.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
Overall for experience is a 7/10. I love the space; it is lovely and big. I hope they do well in Lagos. Typical Nigerians might not agree with how things are done as they seem to follow the book on how Italian meals should be served, but maybe they will adjust to the culture here, who knows?
There is also gelato and a live pasta cooking station. I definitely see a lot of kids’ parties happening here.
FOODIE IN LAGOS RATING: 7/10
