SushiHolic Lagos
28 Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase I, Lekki
Lekki 1 Sushi Bar SushiHolic Lagos is Lekki’s First and New Japanese Sushi Spot
SushiHolic Lagos has been on our radar for a while and was always shifting its launch date (was meant to be March 1st) such that it seemed like that opening would not happen. But alas, Sushiholic opened its doors on the 1st of June for take-outs and for dining in just last week. The name ‘SushiHolic’ is defined as a person who craves Sushi a lot and there are a number of Sushi bars with this name globally.
In terms of location, Lekki 1 is great and now it means one no longer has to go to the Sushi Spots in VI to get that Sushi Fix. Sushiholic is opposite Mico’s Waffle and Chicken/Debonairs Pizza on Admiralty way by the Fidelity Bank ATM. The parking is also quite limited and can take up to about 6 cars and we all know how shitty Lekki 1 street parking is. *shrugs*
The major colour theme is light green and has open windows which are great for that natural light effect needed to take good pictures. The seats are high chairs with soft white leather. In terms of seating arrangement, its simple and space was well managed and could probably take about 30 diners at a time with 11 bar seats.
The Sushi bar is open and you can watch the Sushi Chef prepare the meals of your choice. He is Asian by the way but not so certain of where in Asia exactly he is from.
I must confess, I have not had Sushi in almost 2 years because I was pregnant and then had my little one and then did not have time but I made sure I found time to check this place out. Did not realise how much I had missed Sushi until the Wasabi hit the right spot.
The menu is typical for the Lagos Japanese Restaurant scene with starters such as Edamame. Shrimp Tempura etc and an array of Sashimi’s, Sushi, hosomaki’s etc
I have numbered what I ordered according to their menu in case you want to try what I had. I had a total of fifteen (15) pieces
#33 Avocado Hosomaki
#35 Crazy California – Crab, Avocado, Cucumber topped with Kani (instead got #44 without the Kani topping)
#51 Crazy Shrimp – Shrimp, Avocado, topped with Spicy Shrimp
#79 Paradise – Eel, Mango, Avocado wrapped with Mango and topped with Spicy Salmon
By now you can tell how much I love Avocado’s – lol. On to the review – the Hosomaki was good and the Nori was chewy just as expected. It was fresh and well rolled and did not fall out and stayed in place. The Crazy Shrimp was amazing as well and the spicy shrimp topping was quite good and lightly toasted adding some crisp & crunch to it.
When it came to the Crazy California, the menu shows that it is supposed to be topped with Kani which costs ₦2,900 but it seemed like the chef mixed it up and it had no topping instead and handed me the Crispy California which is the same but no Kani and goes for ₦2,100.
Can you guys imagine I did not even realise this until the time when I was typing this up. See what excitement can cause.
So infact, Sushiholic you owe me ₦800 oh!
Update: So I called and spoke to who I think the manager is and he apologized deeply for the mix up and I’ll get the overage taken off my next order 😊
The Paradise was the only thing I had issues with at the time because the Mango wrap did not stay in place as you can see. In the end, it all went into my mouth and presentation is just something I would not totally bother with that much for Sushi except you of course are bothered by such things. However, It was great and probably my fave followed by the Crazy Shrimp.
All in all, it was a good Sushiholic experience and in terms of pricing, it levels up with the most expensive sushi bar in Lagos still being retained by Izanagi in first place.
I guess at this point, what you really want to know is ‘was it good‘ or ‘was it bleh‘? Yes it was good apart from the little error in my order which I did not notice until I typed this up. I love the fact that there are more options for Sushi in Lagos. I did not have a stomach bug or any tummy upset. They were made in a really really (stressed) clean environment. Even the toilets were sparkling clean. Not sure I can compare the Sushi here to Izanagi just yet which I think is the best Sushi in Lagos as at the last time I checked. If I was to score this new entrant, I’d say an 8/10 – which is pretty good
