Visiting Cheap Eats Spots in Shomolu, Lagos
I know it is 2024, and you thought I’d stop my Cheap Eats challenge, but never. I have you covered. I thought to explore Shomolu, Onipanu this time. From our most spoken about Amoke Oge to food on the streets, here’s how my adventure went.
I thought I should try something else asides the famous Amoke Oge’s Amala and somehow, I think there is a reason their other menu isn’t popularly spoken about. They had a variety of rice so I tried out wo portions of Jollof rice with beef. The rice wasn’t well cooked and it was too salty which left me disappointed, the beef on the other hand was too hard to bite into. After waiting on a long queue, I didn’t enjoy the meal and I won’t be trying their jollof rice again, they should work on improving their other meals, if their Amala is good, why can’t other dishes be that good.

Among all the meal options available, I opted for a portion of pasta and chicken, the pasta was spicy, it was cooked just the right way but the seasoning had a sharp taste I didn’t like. The chicken was well seasoned, I really enjoyed the chicken. The customer service was good and fast, it took less than 10 minutes to get my order even with the long line of people. The food was not bad, but they should work on their seasoning.

I decided to wrap the challenge up by visiting the biggest roasted chicken spot in Lagos
This street has lots of vendors selling roasted guinea fowl and chicken. Some would also sell you chicken in place of guinea fowl. One thing to note, I think the legs of guinea fowl looks thinner and the neck is thin as well. I hate that I fell for it and bought chicken from a convincing vendor. It was tasty, but I wanted GUINEA FOWL. Prices here vary but usually range from ₦6,000 to ₦7,000, depending on your bargaining skills.
