As a kid, my knowledge of cooking eggs was limited to just two styles. The first was the Naija style, a family favorite, where we fried some tasty stew and cracked eggs into it. The second method was the simple boiled eggs – quick to make and perfect for a nutritious snack. Little did I know that eggs had a whole world of delicious possibilities waiting for me!
Let’s embark on an egg-cellent (pun intended) adventure as we explore seven delightful ways to cook eggs that will leave you hungry for more!
Scrambled Eggs
Scrambled eggs are a classic favorite and incredibly simple to make. Crack a few eggs into a bowl, add a splash of milk, and whisk until well combined. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat, melt a knob of butter, and pour in the egg mixture. Stir gently until the eggs are softly cooked and slightly creamy. Serve with a sprinkle of salt and pepper and your breakfast is ready!
Fried Eggs
Fried eggs, oh sunny-side-up sunny eggs! All you need is a hot pan with some oil or butter, and crack those eggs in. Watch the whites cook and bubble, while the golden yolk smiles back at you. It’s like having a mini sun on your plate!
Omelette
This one is my favorite! Beat eggs in a bowl and pour them into a heated and greased pan. Add your desired fillings, such as cheese, vegetables, or ham. Cook until the eggs set and the fillings are warm and melted. Fold the omelette in half and serve it with a side salad.
Baked Eggs
Baked eggs is also called shakshuka, a flavorful one-pan wonder. Sauté your veggies, add tomatoes, crack eggs, cook, and serve with crusty bread for a delightful dish!
Poached Eggs
Another different kind of way to make your eggs is the poached style. Simmer water, add vinegar, crack an egg in, cook 3-4 mins for runny yolk. Enjoy on avocado toast – a healthy choice for diabetics! Discover more Nigerian diabetic breakfasts here.
Boiled Eggs
For a quick and nutritious snack or salad topping, turn to boiled eggs. Gently place eggs in a saucepan, cover them with water, and bring to a boil. Let them simmer for 9-12 minutes, then cool under cold running water before peeling.
Egg Sandwich
Lastly, egg sandwich! Scramble or fry an egg, add cheese, bacon, or avocado, and layer it between two slices of bread, and that’s it! Your breakfast is ready.
