food poisoning remedies
It is almost inevitable that a person who’s adventurous about trying food in new places might get food poisoning. It’s an unpleasant feeling and not very nice to think about, but I believe in having the knowledge either way. Food poisoning usually occurs when a person has consumed contaminated food or water. The symptoms may range between stomach ache, diarrhoea and vomiting. If symptoms include dizziness, blood in diarrhoea or any other severe symptom, you should see a doctor immediately.
Usually, there’s not much you can do to chew food poisoning, except stay hydrated and wait it out. Food poisoning typically lasts for a few days, and you can start to feel better after the first day.
Here are some tips to make you more comfortable while your body gets rid of the toxins that made you sick.
Stay Hydrated
The constant diarrhoea and vomiting are bound to make the body lose fluids, so the best way to replenish to make sure you’re not dehydrated is to chew on ice chips or drink water or fluids to keep your hydration up.
Drink an electrolyte solution
Again, due to diarrhoea, electrolyte levels in the body are usually low during food poisoning. Electrolytes are minerals that are involved in regulating nerve and muscle function. They also maintain a balance between acid and water-based compounds in the body. Salt is an electrolyte; therefore dissolving it in water with some sugar can help keep the level up in the body.
Avoid Eating
It goes without saying that when you’re sick from food poisoning, you should avoid eating for a few hours because eating will introduce new elements that can make the situation worse. When your stomach is more settled and you can keep food down, start with non-fatty food like crackers or toast.
Rest
There is no overestimating the need for rest as your body recuperates after food poisoning.
Other ways to avoid food poisoning are washing hands regularly before handling food, cooking food thoroughly and generally avoiding food that looks suspicious or uncooked (except sushi, lol).
Stay safe!
