I remember wanting boiled corn about a month ago, but there was nowhere to find it. I was wondering why until I remembered every fruit has its season; quite annoying, but why? Let’s find out.
Fruits and vegetables grow and get harvested at different times and seasons around the world because the growth of some plants is subjected to the temperature and lightning around them. It means some fruits wouldn’t grow during harmattan but would grow during the sunny season, and vice versa. The whole gist is that asides from the soil and the seedlings, light and temperature are things also that contribute to the growth of a plant which is the whole essence of having fruits in seasons.
Let’s take a look at some fruits and their seasons-
Banana: This fruit grows best in warmer climates with plenty of sun and humidity. Not to say you wouldn’t find bananas during harmattan, but you might not get the best in terms of size and flavor because that’s not the best time for harvest.
Mango: Mangoes cannot grow during harmattan; the plant is unable to take any temperature below 30°F, which would kill the tree. You might find mangoes during rainy seasons, but you won’t find them during harmattan. But sunny weather? Count mangoes in.
Orange: Orange trees grow 2 to 3 years after planting, most plants take years to grow. It is only natural. Oranges are mostly available from June to September each year, but they sometimes grow all seasons, which is why you might see oranges in January. The myth says oranges are sweeter in August, do you agree?
What do you think, do you think fruits are nicer in their seasons? What’s your best fruit to have?
