Abeke Lagos Restaurant Review Summary
Lagos never runs out of new food spots, and ÀBÈKÉ Lagos is one of the latest to join the Abula spots in Lekki 1. Known for its curated menu focused on local delicacies, especially Abula (Amala, Gbegiri, and Ewedu), ÀBÈKÉ positions itself as a culturally rich experience. I visited with my friend Temi to find out if it lives up to the hype—and the price.
ÀBÈKÉ leans into its Yoruba theme beautifully. The space is adorned with cane furniture, Afrocentric wooden mirrors, and a minimalist earth-tone palette that makes it perfect for content creators. The setting feels calm and premium with sunlight pouring in through modern lattice-style windows. It gives traditional Yoruba elegance a modern twist.
The Wait
On arrival, we were told Gbegiri wasn’t available and asked to wait 30 minutes. Naturally, we agreed—after all, what is Abula without Gbegiri? Unfortunately, by 1:30 PM, we were told we had to wait even longer. Déjà vu hit me hard—it reminded me too much of my last visit to their sister brand, Soho.
The Drinks
The pineapple juice with fresh ginger? Amazing. Refreshing, balanced, and definitely a high point of the experience. I even ordered a second glass.
The Food
After a two-hour wait, the Abula arrived. I was handed just 5 pieces of meat—far from the “assorted” selection I was expecting. I sent it back and got an additional 4 pieces. The meat? Some pieces were soft (mine), while others (Temi’s) were tough.
The Amala tasted slightly undercooked. The Gbegiri was barely present. The goat meat in the asun was tough, although spicy. The peppered chicken wings? Decent, but not as seasoned as they should be. Overall, the food felt… rushed. And for ₦14,500 a plate, expectations were understandably higher.
Despite the beautiful decor and great juice, ÀBÈKÉ left much to be desired. For a spot that brands itself around Abula, not having Gbegiri readily available was disappointing. The long wait, inconsistent meat quality, and underwhelming seasoning made it hard to justify the price. If you’re looking for an Amala hot spot on the Island, this might not be the place.
