Sugarcane Restaurant Lagos, Rice, & Paked: Yanate Banigo, The Mind Behind It All

From Rice – an unconventional approach to fast, casual dining – Nigerian Rice Bowl, to Sugarcane Lagos that serves you breakfast all day, every day to meal kits that help you recreate your favourite recipes at home, Yanate Banigo’s catalogue of food businesses is a big wheel in the industry.   We got a chance to sit down and have a chat with her about her passion for food, her experience running several food businesses in Lagos, and what the future plans are.   Ed Note: We love to see people following their passion and doing the damn thing so quietly.  Tell […]

Lagos and the Myth of Seamless Food Delivery

Lagos Food Delivery Living in Lagos is not easy and neither is feeding in Lagos. If you’re like me who doesn’t like to cook, then you probably order takeout a lot. Thankfully, there are many services to fill that need but like many things in Lagos, it can be frustrating. We spoke to some Lagosians- vendors and customers alike- about the logistical and customer care nightmares that make them want to rip their hair out.  For Rotimi, (@chez_ro) a chef who cooks out of his kitchen, it took a while for him to hack the food delivery service in Lagos.   […]

Another Day in the Company of Strangers…

So I was at Stranger again on a Sunday for more of Heels in the Kitchen’s lovely food. I had seen the menu some days before and screamed for joy at the sight of Mash and Pork Chops. Why scream for joy right because Mash is basic? Well I will tell you why. Getting properly and well done Mash in Lagos has been so hard and a painful journey of kissing many frogs. I think I just found my Prince!

Where Strangers Meet…

I had always known about a place called ‘Stranger’ in Lekki due to work and leisure but thought it was a boutique of some sort until recently, I discovered it was so much more. My Food tank was low on a particular Sunday and that was how I found out that Stranger was indeed a concept store and café offering clothing and accessories. I had gone to meet up with Lumi who was doing a little project there and had invited me for lunch. Initially I was like ‘Stranger? food? seriously?’  and I raced there to see what was going on. Arrived […]
