Best Pairings for Chicken Curry Sauce – I love a good chicken curry sauce probably more than the next person, so you shouldn’t be surprised to know that I have tried a million ways to enjoy it –including ones I can’t mention for fear of being branded a cultist.
Out of all the good, bad, and ugly, here are some of the best pairings for chicken curry sauce ways I enjoy a nice plate of curry sauce.
Steamed White Rice
Sometimes, it is just smarter to keep it simple, and it doesn’t get simpler than white rice.
The rice absorbs the sauce and lets the flavors shine without overpowering the dish. If you cooked your curry sauce well, you would want all those flavors to stand out.
Pro Tip: Rinse the rice a lot of times before cooking to remove excess starch and help the grains stay separate. If you can, just invest in a rice cooker. It is worth it.
Basmati Rice
Lovers of basmati rice gather around for the good news. Basmati rice and Chicken Curry Sauce will change your life.
In my own opinion, basmati rice was specifically made to be paired with chicken curry sauce. The longer grains make the experience so different compared to normal white rice. The combination makes it almost impossible to go back to eating just basmati rice and plain stew.
Pro Tip: Add a bay leaf to the boiling water to add flavor.
Boiled Yam
Though this is not my go-to option, it is perfect for those days when you are craving yams but you’re not ready for the commitment of boiling beans.
Pro Tip: Cool yam cut into bite-sized bits takes this pairing to a whole new level.
Plantain
Plantain is the GOAT. Whether fried, boiled, or roasted, whenever you call, it answers. But, fried plantain and curry sauce is that combination that doesn’t sound good on paper but tastes divine.
The sweetness of ripe fried plantains balances the spiciness of the chicken curry. You can also pair it with boiled plantains if you have very ripe ones.
Pro Tip: If you’re frying Use plantains that are just starting to get ripe and thank me later.
Sweet Potatoes
Ladies and well-cultured men, I saved the best for last. The best way to enjoy curry sauce is by pairing it with fried sweet potatoes.
Rather than cutting the potatoes into strips the way would when making french fries, cut the potatoes into medium-sized slices. This gives your chips more surface area to hold the sauce when eating.
Pro Tip: Pack your chips into a plastic bowl that has a cover and pour a generous amount of sauce into it. Close the bowl and then give it a vigorous shake. Open it to enjoy your chips with each one coated with the right amount of sauce.
Which of these pairings would you try or have you tried before? Do let me know in the comments below.
