Hello Foodies, welcome to 2024. As always, I remain your guide to food and drinks in Lagos. FIL turn 1.., oopsie I won’t spill, wait until then.
Welcome again, so I was craving Akara and decided to stop by at Akara University, Victoria Island Campus. When I first heard about this spot, I was like ahhh, akara has its own school now? There are levels to this thing, I thought let me go check for myself if the Akara can actually graduate. It’s a hidden spot and you might miss it if you’re not a sighter. However, if it is any consolation, their direction through google map is accurate, you wouldn’t struggle much if you drive to the spot. It’s an outdoor sitting space and there’s a big tree which serves as a shade. The problem I had with the space were the flies, aside from that, I loved the serenity and calmness.
MEAL
I had Akara Bsc Burger (quite a name) which comprised of 3 pieces of Akara and one Bread. I had this with custard, milk and sugar. The wait time was 5 minutes which was great. The Akara was crunchy but it wasn’t hot or tasty. It was just there; bland and plain. For a place called “Akara University”, they could really do a whole lot better. I wasn’t impressed with the akara at all. The bread was soft and tasted better when combined with the akara. I was impressed with the texture of the custard. It was really smooth, of course, served with milk and sugar.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
I liked that it was quiet when I visited. The meal was decent but basic. I expected more. The customer service was great and the staff were really polite. They have other things on their menu I would like try out, so yes, I might be visiting again. I must mention that I had an aftermath effect of purging after dining here, and I would recommend that they work on hygiene.
