Black Olive
Black Olive Lagos
Black Olive opened newly in Ikoyi in December 2018 I think and we went here in January but life happens and this post is rather late. For the sake of full disclosure, things may have changed. Anyways, this is our own review of Black Olive Restaurant.
Black Olive occupies a rather obvious space on Awolowo Road Ikoyi so it’s quite a visible structure. There are seating spaces upstairs and downstairs and I went in on a busy weekday afternoon and upstairs was free to grab a seat.
The staff seemed quite friendly and were mostly smiles as expected. The Black Olive space is quite neat, modern space and smelt so edible and flowery at the same time. I really wanted to check what scents the diffusers were but I forgot but it really smelt so good.
Since I was here for lunch at Black Olive, was a bit careful not to eat too heavy and go and sleep off at work. Started with a very cold bottle of water because the heat was insane and ordered the Pan Grilled Barracuda and the Apple Spritzer.
Like some of you may have noticed, I hardly order Fish when I go out to eat but I guess I liked the sound of Grilled Barracuda at Black Olive so why not. The meal took exactly 30 minutes just like the waiter had mentioned and was nicely plated.
The mash was smooth and had some nutmeg in it – at least that’s what I’m sure I tasted. The sauce was a pepper base and had this Ofada/Ayamase look and in hindsight, maybe I should have had rice as a side instead but no gravy with this was totally not bad except you’re die-hard must-have gravy with mash person.
Besides the pepper sauce which was overshadowing the flavor and taste of the fish, the fish was very mild in terms of its own actual flavor without the sauce – which was not bad.
All in all, Black Olive is quite easy on the pocket and budget-friendly (see menu here) from the look of the items on the menu. There is also a private dining room that sits about 15 for more intimate gatherings. I definitely think Black Olive is somewhere I would like to go back to and try other items on the menu. They are also opened on Mondays (12 pm – 10 pm) and is beside Buka Hut opposite TFC on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.
