Remember the  HSE Gourmet Café feature for our ‘Chef’s Corner‘ where the Chef hosted us to some lovely pasta. This time we were here for the Mac n Cheese which we had heard so much about.

HSE Gourmet Cafe Lekki is a unique gem in Lekki Phase one. The restaurant is in an unassuming mall on Fola Osibo Lekki, very easy to miss if you’re not familiar with the area. I had been here on two previous occasions so it was a no brainer when one Sunday afternoon, I was feeling particularly hungry and bored I decided to pop into the restaurant to get some good cooking.

First off, the space is quite small but it seems to work. The inside space has 4 tables and each table sits between 3 – 4 people. I was lucky to find a spare table.

Now, after I arrived and sat down at HSE Gourmet Cafe, I experienced one of the main cons of the place – the service. The service is so slow and for a restaurant that can not seat more that 10 people at a time, the servers always seems to be overwhelmed and out of touch with the customers.

It took about 10 mins of me sitting down for the server to come attend to me (and that was after I called them over repeatedly) and it takes even longer for your food and drink to be delivered to your table. On average, it takes about 30 mins for the food to be served. The servers always seem to be “busy”, they’re never actually just frittering away, but everyone seems to be waiting to get served their food or drinks.

Now for the Pros:

The food!!! I ordered the Mac and Cheese and Pork Chops with a side of Corn on the Cob. All I can say is heaven. The Mac and Cheese was perfect and the Pork Chops were well done. The portions were huge so I ended up taking half the Pork Chops away. By the way, HSE also has the option of adding shrimps to the Mac and Cheese.

The Drinks:

HSE Gourmet Cafe has a unique array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks that compliment the food. I had the Peach and Passion Fruit Ice Tea which was delicious.

All in all, it was a great experience and I will keep going back for more. I would recommend everyone tries a meal on the menu at least once. Just be patient with the service.
