Happy new year 2022! We made it! My siblings and I had lunch at Vendome Restaurant & Lounge in Victoria Island Lagos. This space opened up recently in time for the Detty December crew. When they first opened, they were only opening from 6pm/7pm which never worked for me. Not sure why these restaurants are adopting this approach when they open newly. I remember sLow doing the and now that has changed.

The restaurant is quite easy to find as its directly on the road and not in any hidden corner but the parking space available is quite limited so keep that in mind.

Now on to the food. I love group dining as you are able to have a taste of other meals besides yours (I’m sure my brother is giving me the side-eye)

What We Had:

Drinks

Porn Star Martini: The Porn Star Martini is quite inconsistent. It was my sister’s second time at Vendome and it has looked and tasted different each time so she had to ask the bartender (lol). This could be as a result of the ingredients which are not available locally – Passion fruit. It’s also quite strong and overpowering even after they adjusted it twice.

Strawberry Daiquiri: The Strawberry Daiquiri was presented right and was sweet and stayed frozen for a while and did not melt away so quickly.

Passion Fruit Mojito: This was nice – this was my drink and I really enjoyed this but the crushed ice was too much. Somehow it seems restaurants in Lagos do this to minimize the amount of content. You’ll have to be very specific to let them know how much ice you would want as the waiters would not bother to ask.

Appetizers

Mussels: The menu said these were marinated in Kiwi 😂  but nothing like Kiwi tasted in these rather they were spicy and the broth/soup was quite good. We enjoyed this and this finished quite quickly. False advertising definitely with the 🥝

Octopus: This was indeed flame-grilled as the menu specified. The portion was poor and could have been better IMO. The Octopus, however, was nice and tasty and the caramelised onions were 👌

Mains

Duck: I had been craving some duck for a while and thought to have the duck at Vendome but I was in for a shocker. The menu said ‘sired imported duck breast served with apple confide and strawberry wine sauce’. I’m sure they meant to type ‘confit’ as this is not an English class but there was no such thing as an apple confit on the plate, instead, there was purée which might have been butternut squash (should have asked but did not) and that was not even my issue with this. My issue was that for the price of ₦21,500, this meal had no sides. Yes, no sides, not even fries or mash or salad. Just plain tiny cut pieces of duck on its own. The taste was quite bland and was not working for me at all and on top of that it was tough but it is supposedly ‘imported’. Whether or not meat is imported, there are methods to make meat tender. I did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would for the price. Ordered some wedges to go with this at an extra cost of ₦3,000 which were quite good

T-Bone Steak: This was my sisters’ meal at Vendome and hers came with a side of fries. It was just alright and not too hard to cut through. She had to request for a steak knife as the waiters are not as attentive or just don’t have an idea of what cutlery should accompany certain meals. The portion was just alright and the steak was quite thin.

Pasta Carbonara: The Pasta was surprisingly really good, creamy, tasty and, full of flavour. I was indeed surprised and was definitely something I could come back to order at Vendome. They got this right.

	Ambience	The ambience is relaxed, artsy and colorful. Limited seating is available outside as well and it’s naturally lit to give you beautiful images.
	Food Quality	Steak was average, the duck was average and pasta was top notch. The drinks were not so bad as well but be specific on how you like it
	Location	Easy to find as its on the main road and occupies the first floor of the building. Parking is limited within the premises. There is street parking but not advised if no one to watch your car.

	Service Delivery	Waiters were not attentive and seemed somewhat distracted. The restaurant was not busy. Food comes out really fast.
