In the bid to find new spots for Lagos Mainlanders, I came across Deo Gracias Bazaar. To be honest, I didn’t quite understand the name and thought maybe it was one of those spots where you visit, and your life would never remain the same. I was pretty excited about visiting, I even went with some friends. Now that I think about it, I should have just stayed in my house and ordered small chops from some other places because everything about De Gracias Bazaar was horrible. One of my friends even pleaded with me to give them a minus zero (-0); I was rolling on the floor after she said it.
The space was pretty basic; no effort was put into it. I was going to turn back almost immediately, but I thought not to judge a book by its cover. I was hoping it would turn out like this Ewa Agoyin Place.
MEAL
At first, I wasn’t sure how to pronounce the name, but I made headways. The ‘person’ who attended to my friends and me had a nasty attitude. I said a person because she is not a trained waitress, and she kept saying ‘Are we safe’, this one you are going up and down. What does that even mean? I thought oh, maybe she just wanted to be on the safe side, understandable. I finally decided to order several things since it was affordable; that was my mistake. I have deep regrets. It is funny how I told my friends to get whatever they wanted so we could give our honest reviews; they did but couldn’t eat it.
Fried and Jollof Rice with Beef
I have never seen whitish, onion fried rice until this day. I assure you that rice has been refrigerated for nothing less than three days because there is no way it was fresh, and it had so much onions in it. I can’t even remember what the Jollof tasted like; it was so pale. The beef was strong; my friend said it was stronger than her spiritual battles, and I have never laughed so hard. Mainlanders have a bad mouth.
Spaghetti and Beef
I thought D’Mighty’s Spaghetti was the deal breaker; this spaghetti broke me. I am glad we got just one potion. It was tasteless but spicy. Homemade spaghetti would beat it hands down.
White rice and beans with Chicken and Moi-Moi
The chicken was okay; it was a bit of a consolation. It was soft and well seasoned, the only right thing. The serving of the rice was disgusting; the stew was nothing to write home about. The Moi-Moi had me visiting the toilet for three days; I thought the mainland spots were the main deal. I was proven wrong.
DRINK
One of my friends thought it would be a nice idea to try the in-store zobo drink; we did, and it was good. It made up for our terrible experience.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
It was terrible. A part of me wants to visit some other day to see if the day I visited was just a bad day, but for the sake of my health, I can’t risk it. You would agree it is better to serve quality; but a high-priced commodity than the service received. Even if the restaurant was under the ground, we still deserve good service. Maybe they should take out time to strategize and do what’s better. My friends closing remark was ‘This place should be a shoe shop’ or ‘Completely closed down’.
