Softs is located in Ikeja GRA and is the latest addition to our ice cream spots in Lagos. It’s a pretty small but cute spot that shares a space with CHOPHAUS. Their decor is pink and dreamy, with cones filled with cotton clouds, rainbows on the walls and a sign that says,
“Lick me, I’m soft.”
The space is so small, there’s barely anywhere to sit. There’s a table, two chairs, and a single bench. This is a problem because both spaces were occupied, and there was nowhere for us to sit, and there are no takeaways because obviously, soft serve melts quite fast.
The staff were hospitable, and we were quickly attended to by the cashier, who, without doubt, had a good grasp of the menu and the availability of the ice cream flavours.
There were four staff in the shop. One by the door, one cashier, two in front of both ice cream machines.
Their menu is pretty simple, with interesting wordplay. Ice creams are called “screams”, which I assume is culled from the “I scream, you scream, we all scream, for ice cream” 1925 song by The Big Chris Barber Band.
All ‘screams’ cost ₦3,000 each.
The ice cream is soft serve and can be served in cones or cups. Unless you want sticky fingers, we recommend going for a cup because the ice cream melts VERY fast.
I wanted to have the Grape with grape pop rocks as toppings because I’m a fan of anything grape flavoured, but it wasn’t available. Their menu is still in the works, so that’s understandable. So instead, I went for a Mango, which was topped with pistachio and butterscotch sauce. The Mango wasn’t that great. It tasted like artificial flavouring (which is a bit problematic), and I barely got any taste of the butterscotch sauce because it all melted too quickly. We eventually had to get cups to use.
K wanted Hokkaido, but this also wasn’t available, so she went with Sweetpo, which was topped with pumpkin spice pecans. This particular flavour was hugely underwhelming. Nothing was interesting about it, and it simply tasted like Malta Guinness.
We also ordered a Coconut flavoured soft serve topped with roasted coconut. It was better than the Mango but a little boring. The staff were attentive and super nice, so it wasn’t a bad experience. I would say most people probably go for the space because it’s pretty and Instagrammable. We barely enjoyed the ice cream, and I definitely can’t say it was a joyfully spent N9,000.
