Food is an amazing phenomenon, it connects people all over the world. Today, people all over the world can enjoy food from cultures other than theirs and for this, we are grateful. In this vein, we’re looking at American cuisine in Lagos and where to have them. Here are a few:
A dessert that is made with a pastry filled with chopped or crushed apples mixed with other ingredients such as sugar and/or lemon juice. It is usually served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Though it is now an all-American favourite, Apple pie originated from England as far back as the 14th century. Today, apple pie is enjoyed not just in America, but all over the world.

A hamburger is not necessarily made from ham. In fact, the name is due to its origin, which can be traced back to a place called Hamburg in Germany. Hamburgers are essentially sandwiches with patties made from spiced, ground meat and placed between two buns. There are various ways to cook a burger patty, some of which are grilled, smoked, pan-fried, broiled etc. Americans love hamburgers, consuming a whopping 50 billion each year, and honestly, so do most people in the world. Nigerians included.

Historians have traced the origin of macaroni and cheese back to Europe, in Italy to be precise. However, Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd US president is credited for introducing the dish to America. It is said that he loved the dish so much that he hired someone to make it in the White House. Mac and cheese became more widespread in 1937 when a company called Kraft Foods patented powdered mac and cheese in a box. Now, mac and cheese is considered American cuisine and is popular amongst young Americans.

Buffalo chicken wings are called that because they were first created in Buffalo, New York by Teressa Bellisimo in 1964. The recipe is basically fried chicken wings in a sauce made with hot sauce and butter, it is usually served with blue cheese dressing and celery.
