Getting a gift for a person could be the best thing for you, but for the person receiving it, it could be the worst if you don’t follow these steps.
Put your feelings to the side: When getting gifts for a person for a special occasion or an event, it’s important that you put the person first. While you might get the urge to show off and do you, think about what they might really want. Trace back to your conversations with them, and remember what they’ve mentioned or something special that interests them. Yes, a gift is good, but it becomes more special if it meets the need of the person who gets it. It’s not about you, so put your feelings to the side.
Quiz with style: This is the time when you start random conversations about what they might like. Remember, the goal is to get a hint of what interests them, not reveal your intentions of getting a gift for them.
Don’t break the bank: Going all out could be fun, but only when necessary. Gifts are usually acts of love, not a flaunting of wealth. Don’t pressure yourself when trying to buy a gift for someone. If necessary, create a budget. A gift budget looks something like this.
Read the occasion: If you are Nigerian, you know the default gift for a bride is a set of pots, don’t be that person. It’s long overdue. Brides could use better presents, so always read about the occasion. Don’t get a coffee cup for someone who doesn’t even take coffee. Always read the occasion.
Read the person: Understand the personality of who would be getting/using the gift. It helps you pick colors, sizes, etc. Let’s say you want to get a wig for a friend who has a calm personality; you can’t go all out by getting a blonde or purple-colored wig. Or you are picking a glass frame for a friend; knowing his/her personality helps you decide if it should be a big or small frame.
Do it with love: What’s a gift without some love? Always gift with love, not pressure or to please, do it with love.
