In the spirit of trying Abula Spots in Lagos, I went all the way to Ogba to try out this Amala spot that I recently heard about and met the sweet owner, who was super welcoming and has been doing the business for the past 17 years – The one and only Mama Amala Shonola. The inscription is boldly written, you wouldn’t need to struggle to find the spot.
MEAL
Now, to business. Rab Amala Shonala offers a variety of dishes like Fufu, Jollof rice, Ofada rice, Efo, and Plantain, but their specialty is definitely Amala. Gbegiri wasn’t available when I stopped by, so I had my Amala with Ewedu and Stew. The Ewedu was tasty with bits of Egusi in it, and locust beans (iru). The meat was really tender and well-seasoned. Amala was well whipped- soft and lump-free. I enjoyed my meal for sure, and it’s a spot worth checking out if you’re around Ogba.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
The owner was welcoming and that made me more comfortable, I also liked that the spot was neat. I definitely would visit again. They are open from 8am – 6pm and they offer delivery option.
