CoVid Food Palliatives Nigeria Looting
The coronavirus ‘COVID-19’ hit Nigeria in February 2020 and by March, a lockdown had been announced in Lagos state and a few other states in Nigeria.
In May 2020, the entire country was on lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus with the government promising to disburse CoVid Food palliatives to ease the constant stay indoors. A few communities received this meagre aid and that was the last we heard of it. Until last week.
In the days following the fatal shooting of unarmed protesters by the Nigerian army at the Lekki Tollgate on the evening of the 20th of October, 2020, a lot of things happened during the curfew imposed by the government.
A lot of businesses were vandalised and looted, buildings, bus parks, cars and buses were burnt down: it seemed like a Pandora’s box had been opened.
A particularly peculiar event was the displacement and looting of the Oba of Lagos’ Palace. The looters, albeit by accident, discovered COVID-19 Food palliatives in the palace. This came as a shock to the general public as most people were unaware of the existence of these food palliatives. This event set off a domino effect of some sort, where people started to discover warehouses filled with COVID food palliatives in some parts of Nigeria that ought to have been distributed to the general public months ago.
Food items like rice, noodles, spaghetti, salt, sugar, amongst other things, were discovered in several states across the country. Though some of the food had gone bad, the rest were carted off. These are some of the states where citizens found that they were supposed to receive these items which were unfortunately hoarded by the government. To top this, a politician (S.O.B. Agunbiade) actually stated that he was going to share these CoVid aids at his birthday party and two days after, his home was looted and vandalised 🤦♀️
So angry mobs found money for covid-19 palliative in Oba of Lagos palace and shared it? 😂😂😂.

It is beyond sad that citizens have to clamour and trample on each other to get what belonged to them in the first place. Why these were held on to for this long, we will never know.
Are there any other places you’ve seen people find CoVid food palliatives / aid across Nigeria? Please, share with us.
