Shark House Lagos Summary
The last time I tried Seafood boil in Lagos was in 2019 and my first time was at Shark House 101 – you can read the post I made back in 2019 here. Following my visit to Phemans Food (read my review here), I decided to stop by Shark House Lagos, another seafood spot that’s gained popularity over the years. The reason for this was to compare who has the best seafood boil in Lagos in what I’ll call a Versus!
With all the buzz surrounding it still because ttheir social media page is buzzing!, I was curious to see how it compared especially in terms of flavor, service, and ambience. Here’s how the experience unfolded.
The location didn’t make the best first impression. Housed inside a mall that felt chaotic and slightly unsafe because of touts who had camped there, the entrance lacked the polished aesthetic expected from a food spot with this level of buzz. Inside, the restaurant didn’t feel very clean. The table hadn’t been wiped down – it was dirty, and there was an unpleasant lingering smell that was hard to ignore. I do not advice eating in!
This is not a spot for ambience or atmosphere. If you’re going, best to go strictly for the food. Its also outdoor seating as its at the topmost floor of the mall/shopping centre
The menu was quite long and confusing but I ordered their signature seafood platter, which included clams, crab, prawns, corn, and a side of sauce. The sauce was a clear standout which was rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. It came with a slice of lemon that added a bright zest, enhancing the overall taste. This order was also placed before I arrived and it did not take that much time to be served. The annoying thing was the menu did not specify that we had to choose between corn and potatoes
Don’t rely on placing an order ahead. I tried to do so, but there was a significant delay in response. If you’re on a tight schedule, it’s best to plan for potential waiting time or order in person. They also have more options for platters so there’s a lot to choose from.
Surprisingly, despite the earlier communication delays, our food arrived quickly once we were seated. The staff were responsive and the wait time for the meal was reasonable. However, a bit more attention to cleanliness and upfront communication (like the corn vs. potatoes situation) would go a long way in improving the experience.
Shark Express delivered where it mattered most- the food. The prawns and sauce were excellent, and the platter itself was satisfying. However, the environment and cleanliness left a lot to be desired, which is a huge letdown from my first experience there (read my first review Here)
It’s a place best suited for a quick, flavour-packed meal rather than a full-on dining experience. If you’re planning to visit, manage your expectations and come hungry, not for the aesthetics, but for the taste.
What this place is really named still confuses me years later – I dont know if its Shark House 101 or Shark Express – Gees!
