The Foodie In Lagos team decided to head out for some good food and vibes after a whole year of creating mouthwatering content for you all. We love it though, so no complaints.
Rye Restaurant is located on Kofo Abayomi Street in Victoria Island, inside Nordic Hotel Lagos. It’s basically an “if you know, you know” spot. There’s no sign outside the space of the hotel, so it’s easy to miss. K missed it because she wasn’t sure if that was the hotel and had to ask a security official in front of the opposite building.
Rye is simple but lovely and has a classy feel to it. The space is pretty small, but the hotel is small, so that was understandable.
T’s favourite part is the Christmas tree in the corner. Christmas is her best holiday, so this didn’t come as a surprise. lol
There isn’t much decor in Rye Restaurant, save for a few Christmas decorations and interesting paintings. The ambience is right though, it’s open fresh and airy. There’s an outdoor space with a few chairs, a pool, poolside chairs, and lots of greenery. I’m definitely getting back to that pool even if it’s just for a dip. Lol.
Now, onto the food! 😃
The menu wasn’t too pricey. You can view it here. You can spend about ₦20,000 or less on two people. The service was good; our waiter was very attentive and patient.
Spinach and Feta Risotto Balls (₦5,500)
We shared a plate of this. At first glance, the risotto balls looked like scotch eggs. T and I enjoyed this, but K thought it was so-so. It was full of flavour, according to T. The spinach also gave it a freshness and elevated the flavour. K said if it had come with a different sauce, she might have enjoyed it better.
Fiery Chicken Wings (₦5,500)
We also shared a bowl of this. We thoroughly enjoyed it; it almost felt like they should bottle and sell this sauce. We all agreed the pepper sauce would pair well with rice or yam. It was perfect, with just the right amount of spice and flavour.
T had a glass of Lemonade (₦2,000), which she said was too sour. There wasn’t any sweetness in it, so she didn’t really enjoy it.
I got a glass of Lemon Iced Tea (₦7,200) which I really liked. The weather was ridiculously hot and this was cool and refreshing and quite sweet as well.
K had a Strawberry Milkshake (₦2,500) and this was a relief from the insane heat in Lagos. She mentioned that it was smoother than all the milkshakes she’s had. She apparently usually prefers them thick but this was lovely and sweet enough.
We had a second round of drinks and chose the lemon ice tea based on my recommendation. Can’t pass up on a good drink, now can we?
T ordered the Prawn Penne Pasta (₦9,500) which (she said) was enjoyable. She was a little shocked when it was brought and it was creamy pasta because she prefers tomato-based pasta. We asked the waiter if it could be made a little spicier and he complied. She got full rather quickly and took the rest to go, so it was a fair portion.
I had the Ocean Fresh Sea Food Platter (₦13,500). The portion was good. I’m not really a fan of fish but this wasn’t bad. I later found out that it was croaker fish. The prawns were jumbo size, but K said she’s seen and had bigger jumbo prawns. I didn’t quite like the mash but every other thing was in place.
K had the Crispy Fried Chicken Burger (₦8,000) that came with a side of Irish potato fries. The burger was not as enjoyable as the other dishes. The bun was a little too dry, the chicken was a little bland, and there was barely any cream in it. The chicken skin was the only slightly tasty part. The fries were good. One can’t really go wrong with fries anyways.
Overall, dining at Rye restaurant wasn’t a bad experience, we’ll definitely visit again. 8/10
